Apple Crumble Bats

Who said bats were scary? More like delicious! If only all winged creatures this Halloween season were filled with delicious caramel apples and topped with the best part of any Autumnal dessert…crumble!!

Using Jus Rol’s Ready to Roll Puff Pastry, these will have hands grabbing all night.


Ingredients

  • Small check mark in a circle icon 1 Jus-Rol™ Puff Pastry Ready Rolled Sheet
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 2 red apples, peeled and diced
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 2 tbsp butter
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 1 egg
  • Small check mark in a circle icon Pinch of salt
Crumble topping
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 25g plain flour
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Small check mark in a circle icon 50g cold butter
  • Small check mark in a circle icon Pinch of salt
Equipment required
  • Bat cookie cutter
  • Sharp knife
  • Small bowl
  • Wire rack
  • Small saucepan
  • Baking tray
  • Baking paper

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C
  2. Put your diced apple, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, salt and cinnamon into a saucepan and heat together, stirring continuously, until golden and softened
  3. Mix the crumble ingredients together with your fingers to form your crumble topping
  4. Cut out 6-8 bat shapes from your puff pastry sheet, and lay them on your lined baking sheet
  5. Spoon on a little of the apple pie mixture to the centre of the bat leaving a space around the outside
  6. Top with a sprinkle of the crumble mixture
  7. Brushed with egg wash on top
  8. Bake for 12-15minutes until the side have puffed up and the pastry is golden
  9. Leave to cool completely on a wire rack or eat them warm with melty vanilla ice cream!
